Member Benefits & Services

BAMT offers the following benefits to all members:

Find a Therapist Register

'Find a Music Therapist' service on the BAMT website enables members of the public to search online for a professional Music Therapist by name or area.

If you wish to be included in the public 'Find a Music Therapist' service you will need to change settings in your Member profile to allow this. By default your settings allow only Members to find your details, or you may have chosen to keep your details 'Private' which means only you and BAMT administrators have access to your details. If you need any help changing your settings to public please contact BAMT office (info@bamt.org)

Job Notifications Every Thursday

BAMT collects job postings from various organisations, filters them, and shares them with members every Thursday. If employers are not offering the recommended rates, we contact them to ensure MTs are paid the recommended rate.

Events Bulletins Every Fortnight

We collect information about events from various training providers and share them with members. We also advertise free events that would benefit members.

Monthly bulletins and mid-month bulletin every month

BAMT sends out monthly bulletins and mid-month bulletins every month to members. The bulletins are packed with useful information to members and the latest updates including work that is progressing on influencing statutory bodies eg NHS, education, HEIs etc.

Copies of the British Journal of Music Therapy

Members receive free online access and printed copies of the British Journal of Music Therapy, published twice a year. This is a significant cost to BAMT but considered a very important professional benefit for members.

Supervision Register

There is now a new way to find Supervisors on this site. You now can search for Supervisors using the 'Find A Therapist' search function - you will see there is a tab below the main search fields called 'Offers Supervision'. Simply select this tab to search for a Supervisor.

If you are a Supervisor and would like to be found using the 'Find A Therapist' function, please update your work information in your Profile page and ensure you have checked your visibility options.

Biennial BAMT Conference

Every two years BAMT develops and provides a national professional conference. Members have reduced registration fees for this and there are further reductions for students and disabled Music Therapists.

Membership with Networks and Area Groups

Area groups function locally for Music Therapists. BAMT allocates a budget for each area group to help them run their meetings, which can also count towards your CPD. Attendees receive CPD certificates.

Access to Network Group Events for CPD

Network Groups are special interest groups of BAMT. There is a budget allocated from BAMT funds to run these events. These events, which are free for BAMT members, also count towards CPD.

Links to the European Music Therapy Association (EMTC) and the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT)

All BAMT members are also members of the WFMT and EMTC, which they can add to their profiles. BAMT pays annual memberships to EMTC and WFMT for the membership.

Lobbying and strategic representation

In addition to the above, BAMT continues to promote Music Therapy within the NHS, education, various other organisations, and on social media. BAMT also advocates for Music Therapy to gain recognition among the general public, organisations, employers and national and devolved governments. BAMT actively lobbies on behalf of member Music Therapists with the Department of Health in all four areas of the UK, HCPC, other AHP Professional Bodies through AHPF.

We are also increasingly working collectively with Drama and Art therapy to ensure mutual interest issues are supported as effectively as possible. This recently resulted in Art, Drama, and Music Therapists being included as members of the Psychological Professions, as well as continuing as AHPs, in England. We are now working to ensure this same inclusion and recognition in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales too. We are also campaigning for equity with other AHP students so that trainees are supported by access to the Supported Learning Fund (bursaries) and placement providers are paid to provide a placement (the ‘payment for placement tariff’).

We also recently supported service users to attend the BAMT conference and share their lived experiences with the delegates.

BAMT has also been actively involved in the development of a NHSE Apprenticeship scheme for Music Therapists, providing a different route into the profession that will hopefully increase the diversity of the profession.
